'Mykonos May 2009' - Attribution: Within 2 km southwest of the hustle and bustle of the town of Mykonos is the picturesque and quite village of Ornos. The main characteristic of this village is the small sheltered but active harbor where boats -from fishing boats to luxurious yachts- dock. The area is evolving rapidly and is now a popular tourist resort, so don't miss it! Visitors can find here many hotels and rooms to rent, and they have many opportunities for fun and shopping... therapy, like flea markets, adorable cafes and taverns (you must definitely taste 'Louza', a traditional sausage, made from local pork). Take long walks under the brilliant sun and admire the unique architecture of the white houses that makes this village so unique. Locals say it is a heaven on earth and you must believe them...
Beach memories
Ornos has a beautiful and clean beach, with crystal clear turquoise waters and soft white sand, ideal for families. It's a beach with almost no waves and shallow waters, so that makes it a wonderful place to create your children's first beach experiences. Besides swimming and lazy sunbathing, you can rent a private yacht or fishing boat and you can feel -why not?- like a captain! Many bars are directly on the beach, so if you'd like a colorful cocktail (yes, with the pretty little umbrella on it!) or a fine glass of wine served to you while you are on the beach, Ornos is the place to be. Don't go to sleep when the night is still young, take a romantic stroll on the beach and enjoy the moonlight.
DO: Ornos is very popular and very crowded during high season, so reservation for all amenities is necessary.
DON'T: During less crowded periods, you can sometimes witness seals playing in the water. Don't forget to take a lot of photos!
